Student Blogger ~ Lucius Robbi Swims and smiles were abundant on the Feather River the first weekend of May 2013, during Feather River College’s Intermediate Kayak class. I had the opportunity to help instruct the new recruits, and hopefully impart at least a couple words of wisdom. My goal for the weekend was to help facilitate the experience of whitewater, something I have a great passion for, and hopefully share some of my enthusiasm and techniques for whitewater kayaking. I would definitely call the weekend a success, with huge improvements amongst the students, and great times all around. I was very impressed with the level of determination and endurance students showed, as well as their enthusiasm to learn. The improvements were very noticeable and impressive over the three-day class, with students making leaps and bounds in their boat handling skills and ability to read water. It was a great feeling to see new kayakers getting stoked and gaining a whole new appreciation for rivers and the thrills they have to offer. Instructing was particularly meaningful for me, having been on the other end as a student just a year ago, and now having the opportunity to share this awesome activity with the next set of whitewater adventurers, was a great feeling.
